For outstanding dedication and commitment to the community

Hugh Bonner has provided a welcome parting gift to the County Down Milk Cup committee.

Hugh recently stepped down from the committee after 15 years involvement, having been chairman from 1992 until 2004 and in recent years he carried out the role of public relations officer. Now he has secured the committee a £500 cash grant to help subsidise tournament costs and allow more talented children the opportunity to take part.

Hugh, through his work at BT Retail, is one of 196 employees nationwide to secure assistance through the BT Community Champions scheme that supports and rewards the voluntary work of BT employees.

The scheme has been in place since 1983 and awards £200,000 to local communities each year.

Hugh said: “I was involved with the committee for 15 years and this cash grant from BT will make a real difference. The fact that BT recognises the importance of volunteering within local communities through this scheme is fantastic.”
